‘Cluster Bomb' Reported at Newhall Surplus Store

After a device deputies were calling a "cluster bomb" forced evacuations at an Army surplus store in Newhall, the device was determined to be inert, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Valley station.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the store 24319 Main St. around 2 p.m. after someone dropped off the device at the store.

Everyone was asked to avoid the area as deputies investigated.

At 3:30 p.m., deputies determined that the so-called cluster bomb was inert.

An evacuation order had originally been issued for the nearby Newhall Community Center, but authorities later determined the center was at a safe proximity and evacuation was not necessary.
