U.S. Coast Guard Ends Search After Locating Missing Boaters Near Santa Cruz Island

The U.S. Coast Guard ended its search for three boaters near Santa Cruz Island after all three people were found safe aboard their boat Wednesday, authorities said.

All three boaters were located in good health on their boat near Albert's Anchorage in Santa Cruz Island around 5:30 Wednesday morning, the United States Coast Guard said in a statement.

At 8 p.m. Tuesday, the Coast Guard station at Channel Islands Harbor received a call from a woman reporting her husband on Saturday left Ventura Harbor with two other boaters, the operator and his wife, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Sondra-Kay Kneen.

The woman said the boaters were heading to Santa Cruz Island in a 35-foot sailing vessel and scheduled to return Tuesday.

The Coast Guard Command Center in Los Angeles immediately launched a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Forward Operating Base Point Mugu in Ventura County along with the Coast Guard Cutter Blacktip from the Channel Islands Harbor to search for the missing boaters, Kneen said.

The boaters told officials their return date had been miscommunicated, noting they had planned to return Thursday.
