College Recruiting at Church

The California State University system is taking its message to African-American students.
Over the next three weekends, 40 speakers from CSU will address congregations at 68 African-American churches throughout California.
"Sitting on our campuses, telling you to enroll isn't going to do it," says Cal State Long Beach President F. King Alexander.
He and CSULB Vice President for Student Services Douglas Robinson will speak Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Long Beach this Sunday.
They'll target their message not only to prospective CSU students, but also to their parents.
"We give them a menu and a road map to get to college," says King.
It's a road map geared toward 5th and 6th grade students.
According to King, "waiting until you're a junior or senior in high school is too late to start thinking about college."
Since the program, called Super Sunday, launched in 2004, applications to CSU's from African American students have increased 15 percent.
