Los Angeles comics are sharing fond memories of Tracy Morgan, who was critically injured in a crash on a New Jersey highway. Kate Larsen reports from Hollywood for the NBC4 News at 11 on Saturday, June 7, 2014. (Published Sunday, Jun 8, 2014)

Los Angeles comedians and former castmates were among those sharing fond memories of funny man Tracy Morgan on Saturday after he was critically injured in a bus crash on a New Jersey highway.

At the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, comedian Paul Rodriguez took gentle jabs at Morgan as he impersonated the lovable comic.

"We don't hold anything sacred," Rodriguez said. "We believe that laughter is the best medicine."

Comedian Jeff Richards braved the stage, but was emotional as he recalled working with Morgan on “Saturday Night Live” for three years.

"I think people really wanted to know him more, the more that they let him be himself," Richards said. "He was just always bigger than life, instantly funny, always funny."

The 45-year-old “30 Rock” star was in a limo bus with six other passengers returning from a standup comedy show in Delaware early Saturday when the driver of a Walmart truck swerved into the limo bus. The collision took the life of Morgan's friend, 62-year-old James McNair, a comedian known as Jimmy Mack.

"We hope that God only has the need for one comic, not two," Rodriguez said.

Prosecutors have charged the driver, 35-year-old Kevin Roper, in the crash.

In a statement, the CEO of Walmart said the company would take “full responsibility” if it is determined that the truck caused the accident.

Meanwhile, the tight-knit comedy world is praying for Morgan's quick recovery.

"If by any means you can see me, we send all our love and all our best wishes to you and your family," Rodriguez said to Morgan. "Hurry up and get well, and we expect you back on the stage where you belong."
