A Ladera Ranch mother of three, who worked for three years as the financial secretary at Compass Bible Church in Aliso Viejo, was arrested Thursday on charges of stealing more than $200,000 from the church.

Crystina Rene Bock, 37, was taken into custody at her home on suspicion of 62 counts of grand theft, Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.

Bock worked at the church from June 2005 until she was fired in September 2008, Amormino said.

She allegedly stole cash and checks and had some check-payers make them out to CBC -- the initials of the church, but close enough to her own initials to allow her to cash them into her personal account, Amormino said.

Someone noticed a "discrepancy" with one of the checks last September and alerted the sheriff's department, Amormino said, declining to be more specific. Bock was fired then, he added.

"Financial crimes usually take that long," Amormino said, referring to the year-long investigation. "We're very thorough. This is the type of crime with so many victims, and when you have 62 counts you have to do a very thorough job."

Bock was being held without bail in the Santa Ana jail pending a bail review hearing on Monday, Amormino said.
