3 Injured, Including 9-Year-Old Girl, in Compton Shooting

Three people, including a 9-year-old girl, were injured when gunfire broke out in Compton on Monday night, sheriff's deputies said.

The shooting was reported about 8:15 p.m. near Alondra Boulevard and Central Avenue, said Sgt. K. Ebbinga of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were unclear. Witnesses described hearing up to eight shots.

"At this time, it is unknown if the shootings are gang related," deputies said in a news release.

All three people were taken to the hospital, but the severity of their injuries was not immediately clear. Deputies at the scene said the girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
