A man who went to pick up an iPhone offered for sale through craigslist.com on Saturday was robbed at gunpoint.

The holdup behind a Carl's Jr. at Las Tunas Drive and Golden West Avenue in unincorporated Temple City occurred about 3:30 p.m., sheriff's Lt. Jeff Walker told the Pasadena Star-News.

The victim was supposed to pay $500 for the fancy telephone but, when the two met, the would-be seller pulled out a semiautomatic pistol, took the victim's cash and fled, said Walker.

The suspect was described as Asian, about 5 feet 9 inches and 160 pounds; he was wearing a red jacket.

Walker advised people to be wary of such transactions and urged them to find out as much as possible about sellers before agreeing to meet them. All meetings should be arranged in a public place, he said.
