Corey Seager Puts on a Show as Dodgers Destroy Mets, 12-0

Welcome to the Seager Show.

Corey Seager hit not one, not two, but three home runs as the Los Angles Dodgers destroyed the New York Mets, 12-0, on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Seager homered in the first, fourth, and fifth innings as he recorded the second three-homer game of his career. 

"It's obviously great to hit multiple home runs in games," said Seager. "It's exciting, there's no way around it. It's just exciting."

Seager (2) has already tied Babe Ruth and Ken Griffey Jr. with multiple three-homer games in his career, and has one more than Mickey Mantle (1) and David Ortiz, who was never able to accomplish the feat. 

Seager got the scoring started with a two-run blast in the first frame.

Two batters later, Cody Bellinger continued his home run tear when he crushed his NL-leading 22^nd home run of the season into the seats in right field.

"I don't think there's a better feeling," said Bellinger of the home run barrage. "We're doing whatever we can to win games and we have great pitching which makes it easy on our offense."

Bellinger became the fastest player in MLB history to hit 22 home runs in their career, beating Wally Berger by four games.

The 21-year-old rookie has also hit 10 home runs in a 10-game span, the first rookie in MLB history to accomplish that feat, and the second in Dodgers franchise history joining Shawn Green (2002).

"We're clicking on all cylinders right now," said Bellinger of not only himself, but his teammates. "We're having fun and we have a plan against opposing pitchers and we're executing it really well right now."

Seager smashed his second home run of the game, a solo shot to dead-center field in the bottom of the fourth inning.

If they hadn't done so already, the Dodgers broke the game open off Santa Monica native, Robert Gselman.

Yasmani Grandal started the fifth inning with a solo shot to left field that chased Gselman from the game, and five days later, Seager hit his third home run of the game to opposite field that gave the Boys in Blue a commanding 10-0 lead.

"It's one of those nights where the ball just goes where you want it to," continued Seager. "You're putting good swings on it and they're going out of park."

Gselman (5-5) took the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts in just 4 and 1/3 innings. He also allowed four home runs.

"I've been getting my butt kicked out there," said Gselman. "I left a lot of pitches up in the zone and it made it harder."

Lost in the box score, Dodgers right-hander Brandon McCarthy (6-3) was brilliant, throwing six shutout innings with just four hits allowed to go with a walk and four strikeouts.

"It was hard to not notice how many runs we scored tonight," said McCarthy. "Normally, I don't notice it, but it felt like we were all set pieces moving the game until our guys get their at-bats."

McCarthy lowered his ERA to 2.87 and has been dominant this season for the Dodgers as he's pitched 69 innings on the season, more than the last two years combined.

"I've commanded fairly well and the ball is moving," said McCarthy of his success. "The last couple of weeks have been an example of some luck thrown in there too. My goal is to minimize hard contact and execute my pitches."

Brock Stewart recorded a save in his 2017 debut as the right-hander threw three scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen. It was the first save of Stewart's big league career.

Justin Turner's 14-game hitting streak was snapped, despite the fact he reached base on an error in the first inning.

The Dodgers hit four or more home runs for the second straight night and 28 total in their last 10 games, the most homers over that stretch in the team's history (134 years).

"We're having a great time," said Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts. "As excited we are for Cody and Corey we're playing very good baseball and we're ready to go again tomorrow."

The 12-run victory was the largest margin of victory for Los Angeles this season.

Los Angeles has won five consecutive games overall, and 11 of their last 12, but remain ½ game behind the Colorado Rockies for first place in the N.L. West.

It was almost déjà vu in the outfield as center fielder Joc Pederson's life flashed before his eyes when he nearly collided with Yasiel Puig at full speed during a fly ball out late in the game.

"It seems like I hold my breath a lot when the ball goes to right-center field," joked Roberts. "Fortunately, Yasiel, very talented, came up with it, and there was no collision."

Pederson suffered a concussion after colliding with Puig in right-center last month and was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list.

"Whatever Bellinger's doing, I don't understand and I think Seager got mad and decided to hit three of his own," said teammate Brandon McCarthy of the hot-hitting duo. "It's really fun to watch those guys hit right now."
