Fraud Suspects Allegedly Posed as Women, Credit Card Reps: Police

Two men allegedly took turns using bogus credit cards and calling retail locations with fraudulent authorization codes, according to Manhattan Beach PD

Two men recently paroled from prison allegedly dressed as women and scammed multiple retailers, taking turns using bogus credit cards and posing as credit card company representatives, the Manhattan Beach Police Department announced Tuesday.

Cornell "Corey" Jackson, 29, and Marquet Dorsey, 24, were arrested June 5 during a probation search of Jackson's home in Lakewood, police said.

The arrest stems from an alleged incident on June 1 at Trendy Sunglasses in Manhattan Beach, said police.

Using a prepaid Visa card with a zero balance, Jackson allegedly purchased $1,172 worth of sunglasses, according to the MBPD.

"When the card was declined, Jackson had suspect Marquet Dorsey call the store pretending to be Visa. Dorsey tricked the clerk into processing the sale by providing a fictitious 'authorization code,' thus approving the transaction," police said in a statement.

During a search of Jackson's home, police discovered evidence that allegedly links the suspects to at least 40 similar transactions, according to the MBPD.

By the time a retailer realized the authorization code was fraudulent, it was too late and the store incurred the loss, said police. In some incidents, the men allegedly returned the fraudulent purchases to other retail stores to obtain cash, store credit and other property, said police.

During the alleged crimes, Jackson and Dorsey -- recently paroled from prison due to the Post Release Community Supervision -- wore makeup and dressed as women, according to police.

Detectives recovered the Infiniti and returned it to the dealership.
