Dead Baby Found in Apartment Complex Trash

Corona police found the baby after a woman said she threw it away, believing it was dead at birth

Corona Police discovered a dead baby in a trash can Tuesday night after receiving a call about an injured woman at Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, authorities said.

When officers arrived at the hospital, medical staff informed them that the 24-year-old woman may have recently given birth, but there was no baby. After more investigation police determined she gave birth at her home earlier that morning.

The woman told authorities she believed the baby was dead at birth and that she put it in a trash can at a large apartment complex near the 2200 block of Treemont Place in Corona.

Detectives found the baby in the trash as the woman described.

No charges have been filed and it is unclear if the woman is still in the hospital, authorities said.

The cause of the baby’s death is unknown and an autopsy will be completed by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
