Two Killed in Crashes Near 134, 5 Freeway Interchange

Lanes on the eastbound 134 Freeway were closed until about 6 a.m.

Two people were killed in two crashes early Monday near the 134 Freeway's interchange with the 5 Freeway.

The first deadly crash involved a driver who was struck after exiting his disabled vehicle on the 5 Freeway near Colorado Boulevard. CHP officers had just completed that crash investigation when they received a report of another crash on the eastbound 134 Freeway near the 5 Freeway.

The victim rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped on the connector road at about 2:30 a.m., according to an initial CHP investigation. Officers removed the victim from the burning vehicle.

"They pulled him away from the fire and began CPR, but were unsuccessful," said CHP Officer Jeff Will.

The other driver involved in the crash suffered minor injuries, CHP officers said.

Lanes on the 134 Freeway reopened at about 6 a.m.
