A special education teacher at Crenshaw High School is being investigated for inappropriate contact with a student. The LA Unified School District says the teacher has since resigned.
A male special education teacher at Crenshaw High School who was removed from the classroom three weeks ago amid allegations of inappropriate contact with a child has resigned, the school district confirmed Wednesday.
There is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the LAPD, a Los Angeles Unified School District spokeswoman said.
In a letter (PDF) to parents and guardians obtained by NBC4, interim principal Sylvia Rousseau said the district is supporting the investigation.
"Please be assured that in response to these allegations we have taken every measure to insure the safety and well-being of your child," wrote Rousseau in the letter, dated Feb. 22.
During an interview with KPCC on Wednesday, LAUSD superintendent John Deasy confirmed the investigation but would also not disclose any details.
"We investigated a situation that warranted our removal of a teacher. That's under investigation at the moment. Because it's an active investigation and we notified the parents in that classroom, that is all I'm at liberty to talk about at the moment," he said.
Crenshaw High School is located at 5010 11th Ave. (map).
