Juvenile Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of Pregnant Mother in Venice

A juvenile was taken into custody Friday night in connection with the fatal stabbing of a pregnant mother in Venice last month, police said.

The person detained has not been charged yet, according to the LAPD Pacific Division. The connection between the person and the victim was not immediately clear.

The girl in custody is a juvenile, the Los Angeles Police Department said Saturday morning.

Officers responded at around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 to an assault with a deadly weapon call at 80 Windward Avenue and found an unresponsive woman in her early 20's bleeding from stab wounds, according to the Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Station.

The woman was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Family members and police identified the woman as Jasmine Preciado. Preciado's family said she was three months pregnant and a mother to a 3-year-old daughter.

"Did you know that by hurting Jasmine, you hurt her daughter? You hurt her family, and you hurt her friends," said Preciado's cousin, Christina.

Preciado was on a date with her boyfriend that night, her family said.

The couple got into an argument with three other people before Preciado was stabbed, police said. Authorities noted they do not know what they were fighting over.

Surveillance video released Tuesday shows the moments leading up to the deadly stabbing.

Footage appears to show Preciado in dark clothing showing her phone to several people near a vehicle.

A short struggle is seen along with a person dressed in white, holding something shiny.

The Los Angeles Police Department were looking for a man and two women who fled driving eastbound on Windward Avenue in a dark-colored SUV.

Anyone who saw the incident was urged to call LAPD's Pacific Division at 310-482-6334.
