Damaging Winds Fall In
Gusts of up to 70 miles per hour are expected tonight
Time to grab a jacket, if you own one. "Strong and damaging northerly winds" developed over the south coast and mountains of Santa Barbara County and spread into San Luis Obispo, Ventura and Los Angeles counties, according to a National Weather Service advisory.
Winds are expected to peak in strength tonight and early Wednesday with gusts of up to 70 miles per hour, then weaken later Wednesday, it said.
A high wind warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Antelope Valley and the mountains of Los Angeles County with the exception of the Santa Monica range, and from 3 this afternoon until 11 Wednesday morning in the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys.
A less serious wind advisory will be in effect from 3 this afternoon until 11 Wednesday morning in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area and the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys, according to the NWS.
A high wind warning projects sustained winds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more while a high wind advisory foresees winds of 35 mph and above.
In Orange County, the combination of high winds and low humidity prompted the NWS to issue a fire weather watch that will take effect tonight and last through Thursday afternoon in coastal areas and the Santa Ana mountains.
The NWS forecast highs today in the 60ies in many parts of Southern California. Temperatures will be even lower Wednesday -- up to 7 degrees in some areas -- before rebounding on Thursday.
