A dancer leaps in the old boiler room of the Linda Vista Community Hospital of Boyle Heights. The Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre will stage performances at the historic property on Nov. 1, 2, 8, and 9.

Site-specific dance performances and Southern California have such a rich and interesting history that it is almost as if the form and the place were paired up by a zany matchmaker with a penchant for thinking big.

Remember the dancers who took to the fire escapes along the Emser Tile Building in West Hollywood? Or Sarah Elgart's "site-specific, multi-sensory" LAX show in September? Yeah. Culture in surprising places is rather a regular thing 'round these parts.

And here's the next interesting iteration: The Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre -- the very troupe that took to the Emser in 2005 -- will visit the Linda Vista Community Hospital in Boyle Heights for two weekends of movement, bends, jumps, and physically dynamic storytelling.

Title? "The Groundskeepers." The dates are Nov. 1, 2, 8, and 9.

If you're thinking that the built-n-1924 Linda Vista rings a bell, you're right on the money. It's been used in many, many movies as an atmospheric setting -- "Pearl Harbor" being a prominent one -- and a number of high-profile ghost searches have gone down over the years.

Make that the closed years: The institution shuttered over two decades back. But the Linda Vista is about to get a new lease, literally, and quite the positive one, too: A new housing facility for seniors is on the way for the cinematic property.

The Duckler dancers will tell the tale of the building and its East LA community during the performance. As with many site-specific events, you'll move with the dancers, so expect to visit the boiler room and chapel (so comfortable shoes are a must). Original music shall lend the dancers lift, and a rooftop party? That's in the works, too.

    Tickets are $25.
