Man Fatally Struck by Tanker Truck on 405 Freeway

All lanes but one of the southbound 405 Freeway near Wilshire Boulevard were closed early Friday morning as authorities investigated the death of a man who ran in front of and was struck by a tanker truck.

California Highway Patrol responded to the scene at around 1:02 a.m. and found a body of a man on the freeway and a tanker truck pulled over to the side.

The truck driver told investigators that a man ran into the shoulder of the freeway and right into the path of the truck as it traveled in the No. 3 lane.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and was not cited, CHP said.

It was unknown how the man got on the freeway.

Only the HOV lane was open to commuters as CHP investigated the scene.

All lanes of the southbound 405 near Wilshire were reopened by 4:30 a.m.
