Dog Survives Crash in Chatsworth That Killed Two

Two people died after their vehicle flipped over off the Eastbound 118 Freeway in Chatsworth early Sunday morning, officials said, but a small dog survived the crash.

The car was traveling eastbound on the freeway when it lost control, crashed through barriers and went down an embankment just after midnight, according to a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

Upon arrival, firefighters located the vehicle and the two occupants of the car dead inside, police said.

Fire personnel confirmed that they had found a small dog named Harley, who survived the deadly crash. He was taken to a shelter to be evaluated and taken care of, officials said.

CHP issued a Sigalert for the eastbound 118 Freeway off-ramp, expected to last until 11 a.m.

The identities of the victims were being withheld until the next of kin was notified, officials said.

What led up to the crash was not immediately known.
