Death Recommended in Random Slayings Case

David Contreras was convicted of stabbing three people to death in the Inland Empire in 2012.

A jury has recommended death for a Southern California man who randomly stabbed three people to death.

The Riverside County panel issued its recommendation Wednesday for 29-year-old David Contreras of Perris. He'll be sentenced in May.

Contreras was convicted two weeks ago of killing a man whose body was found in a field in 2012.

Jose Apreza of Perris vanished while walking his dog. He was stabbed two dozen times.

Contreras also was convicted of killing a mother and daughter two months after Apreza's death.

Authorities say 51-year-old Maria Gonzalez and her 25-year-old daughter, Consuelo, left their Nuevo home on an afternoon walk and were found lying in the street.

DNA evidence linked Contreras to the crimes

Authorities say he had no connection to any of the victims.
