Man Dead, Woman Wounded in Santa Clarita Shooting

Police were searching Wednesday for a gunman who knocked on an apartment door and fatally shot a man and wounded a woman in Santa Clarita.

The two were shot at an apartment complex about 4:30 p.m. in the 27500 block of Sierra Highway, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy Ryan Rouzan.

That incident happened on Golden Valley and Lost Canyon roads.

Lt. Eddie Hernandez, of the LA County Sheriff's Deparment, said the victim who survived was shot in the shoulder and was not cooperative. She wouldn't elaborate as to what she was doing there or who she was there with, he said.

Deputies say in it's fortunate the shooting happened indoors and no one else was hurt in the densely populated area.

Neighbors tell us they're grateful.

"Just families, a bunch of ... you can see all the kids out here," said Sevag Kurdian, a neighbor.

Detectives attempting to determine if it was connected with an earlier shooting on a nearby freeway.

The California Highway Patrol told the sheriff's department at 3:47 p.m. someone had shot into a car on a nearby freeway.

Detectives initially thought the two events were not related, but the situation remains unclear, deputies said.

The vehicle hit by bullets on the freeway was found at an apartment complex, but officials said it was not clear if it was the apartment complex where the fatal shooting occurred.
