Pursuit Ends on 605 Freeway After Pickup Truck Driver Hits Spike Strips

The suspect was wanted for assault on a police officer, sheriff's deputies said.

A suspect wanted for assault on a police officer led sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers on a short pursuit on Sunday afternoon. The assault happened a week prior, according to sheriff's deputies.

The slow-speed pursuit began around 4:25 p.m. in the Whittier area. It ended around 4:50 p.m. on the 605 Freeway just north of the 405 Freeway in Los Alamitos when the suspect pulled over after hitting spike strips. He was quickly taken into custody.

The pursuit was initiated by LASD's Industry Station, but was later handed over to CHP officers.

Authorities said the man attempted to run over a deputy last week, but the deputy was not injured.

The driver is known by deputies, but his name has not yet been released to the public, according to the sheriff's department.
