A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was transported to Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance after getting hit by a car while responding to a shooting in South LA. The deputy was in stable condition Friday, and sources said the deputy was conscious and breathing when he or she was transported. A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was struck by a vehicle and a suspect was shot to death by deputies near South Los Angeleson Friday afternoon.
The deputy-involved shooting and collision happened about 2:30 p.m. in the 11400 block of South Vermont Street near Imperial Highway, Deputy Kim Manatt of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Headquarters Bureau said.
The area is in unincorporated Athens near a Green Line Metro station (map).
The deputy was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in unknown condition, but a sheriff's spokesperson said the officer was conscious and breathing.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.
According to witnesses, the suspect was arguing with a young woman who called police to the scene.

Authorities were keeping media from the scene.
