One person was hospitalized and authorities searched overnight for a second individual after a deputy-involved shooting early Wednesday in East Los Angeles.
The shooting occurred in an alley between Whittier and Olympic boulevards at about 1 a.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Deputy Crystal Hernandez.
No deputies were injured. The subject was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Hernandez said.
No arrests were reported Wednesday morning. A ground search for the second person was suspended at about 7 a.m. after deputies established a containment area.
The shooting occurred after deputies attempted to approach two individuals, one of whom ran into an alley. It was not immediately clear why deputies attempted to contact the subjects.
"When they confronted him, the suspect produced a handgun," said Lt. Dave Dolson.
The man was struck by several rounds, according to investigators. A handgun was recovered at the location, Dolson said.
