Dog Mauls Man at Strip Mall

Animal control took custody of a pit bull mix named Roscoe after he mauled a man at a strip mall on Thursday.

"He did have bandages all over his face," said Amy Sosa, a witness. "He was bleeding real bad."

Many were familiar with the dog and his owner.

"It's a homeless guy we seen around the neighborhood for years," said Robert Salulter, a neighbor. "I've seen people give the dog water. One of the fire days we had I gave him water. I don't see the dog being a vicious dog."

Christopher McIntosh, another neighbor, said he seems to protect his owner.

"When people walk up to give food money or drink, he usually just wags his tail," he said.

The LAPD believes the owner and another man were fighting so they detained the dog owner and took a battery report.

Meanwhile, concern for his dog is mounting.

Sosa worries about the dog's fate.

"Once a dog bites, gotta take him away," Saulter said. "Sad to see the dog go. The owner, that's all he has. He's a homeless dude."
