Overheated Dog Rescued From Eaton Canyon Hiking Area

A Boxer dog was rescued after it collapsed from possible heat stroke during a hike.

A dog was rescued from Eaton Canyon after it collapsed from a possible heat stroke while on a hike with its owner, according to the Altadena Sheriff's Station.

The Pasadena Fire Department, the LA County Fire Department and the Altadena Search and Rescue Team came to the canyon when the owner called for help after the 4-year-old Boxer dog, Tyson, stopped walking and appeared lethargic.

The owner said she didn't expect it to be so hot when she left for the hike and she brought water for herself, her friends and Tyson, but Tyson began panting heavily and vomited when given water.

"He got to the point where he's just walking really slow and just, like, he looks a little out of it," she said.

Hikers on the trail stopped to help by pouring some of their own water on Tyson and helping the owner call for help, which soon arrived.

"If it wasn't for them, I honestly don't know where Tyson would be right now because it was crazy how bad he was," the owner said.

The Altadena Search and Rescue Team was able to drive up the hiking trail to reach Tyson. Crews found Tyson panting and unable to sit up or drink water without vomiting and transported him in an air conditioned vehicle to the Eaton Canyon Nature Center's parking lot.

The Pasadena Humane Society treated Tyson in the parking lot and after 30 minutes of cooling off, Tyson was able to drink water without vomiting.

The owner said Tyson was fine when they returned home.
