Dolphin Strays Into Long Beach Harbor Construction Site

A dolphin surfaces Tuesday in Long Beach Harbor.
Crews removed metal walls at a contruction site in Long Beach Harbor Tuesday in an effort to help a dolphin find its way back to sea.
The dolphin apparently entered the area during high tide and found itself behind the walls when the tide went out. Welders cut away parts of the wall Tuesday afternoon.
Marine Animal Rescue officials told NBC4 at about 6:30 a.m. that the dolphin had left. Aerial video later showed what appeared to be something -- possibly a seal -- swimming in the area.
A wayward dolphin that appeared in the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve late last month later went back to sea. The 7-foot dolphin, which first appeared April 27, was seen by volunteer monitors Friday night leaving the preserve and entering Huntington Harbor, which leads to open ocean, said Peter Wallerstein of El Segundo-based Marine Animal Rescue.
