Long-time radio personality Dr. Laura Schlessinger said Tuesday night she will end her nationally syndicated radio program by the end of the year.

Schlessinger, who appears on KFWB 980 in Los Angeles, made the announcement on Larry King Live Tuesday night.

Schlessinger has been under fire for repeatedly using the N-word on a recent segment of her show.

Schlessinger told King she plans to give up the show once her contract expires at the end of the year. She told King she wants to "regain her First Amendment rights."

"I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors," she told King.
