A suspected street racer was arrested Friday in connection with a crash that killed a 35-year-old man in Hawthorne, and now a second driver is being sought, police said.
Officers responded to reports of a major traffic collision involving a Chevrolet Cobalt and a Honda CRV just before 1 p.m. Friday in the 13100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, according to the Hawthorne Police Department.
Alfredo Perez Davila, 23, was allegedly racing his Chevrolet Cobalt against a red, Chevrolet Camaro northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard when he lost control, swerved across traffic lanes and slammed into the center median, according to Hawthorne police.
The impact caused the Cobalt to go airborne, eventually slamming into the Honda CRV driving southbound.
Video recovered from nearby businesses showed the Cobalt rolling completely over the top of the Honda before coming to rest in the street, police said.
The sole driver of the Honda died at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
Davila was treated at the scene and arrested on suspicion of murder, authorities said.
