U-Haul Truck Driver Arrested After Pursuit

A driver of a U-Haul rental truck was taken into custody Tuesday night after leading officers on a pursuit in which he blew through intersections, cut across parking lots and drove in opposite lanes.

The pursuit started when the driver refused to pull over during an attempted traffic stop in Newport Beach, police said. The driver was believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run collision.

The driver then fled north through Santa Ana and into the Downtown Disney area.

At some point, the driver reversed the truck into an Anaheim police cruiser, officials said.

The pursuit came to an end about 7:30 p.m. on Magnolia Street south of Ball Road in Anaheim when officers spun the truck out and surrounded the driver.

The man was taken into custody. He was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading and assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon.

Police did not say what, if any, cargo the truck was carrying.
