Pursuit Driver Found Hiding in HoneyBaked Ham Shop

A man was taken into custody in the back room of a HoneyBaked Ham shop in Pasadena, where he tried to hide after leading police officers on a high-speed pursuit Thursday afternoon, police said.

The pusuit began in Boyle Heights over a report of two men with a gun at a housing project, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. When officers attempted to stop the black Kia, the driver took off at high speeds, weaving its way through El Sereno, San Marino and into Pasadena.

At one point, the passenger bailed from the car in San Marino, but was caught right away, police said.

The chase continued on surface streets, damaging two other cars along the way, and ended in a driveway, where the driver abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Los Angeles police scoured the area near Sierra Madre and California boulevards and took a man into custody at a HoneyBaked Ham shop.

Two employees were inside, including Daniel Zayas, who first saw the man running in and going through counter then came face to face with the suspect .

Zayas says that man did not have a gun. Police say a handgun was recovered, but it was unclear where.
