Alleged Drunken Driver Leads Police on Pursuit, Crashes in Monterey Park

An allegedly drunken driver led police on a mile-long pursuit in Monterey Park early Saturday morning before crashing into a guardrail, authorities said.

Police spotted the man driving with his lights off on the Atlantic Boulevard on-ramp on the westbound 60 Freeway, according to a Monterey Park Police Department representative. When police attempted to pull him over, he sped off onto the freeway.

Police pursued the man for one mile before he crashed into a guardrail of the 60 Freeway connector to he northbound 710 Freeway, police said. One passenger was ejected from the vehicle in the crash and was taken to a hospital conscious and breathing.

The driver and two other passengers were taken to a hospital to be evaluated. The driver will be arrested and charged with a felony DUI, police said.
