Police warned Sylmar residents Tuesday to be on alert for a sexual assault suspect sporting distinct “earlobe gauges,” who targeted two women in the early morning hours last weekend. Beverly White reports from Sylmar for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2012.

Hunt was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted rape, online jail booking records said.

“Detectives were writing a warrant for his arrest when we got the call this morning,'' LAPD Detective Mike Brox said in a press release. “We had been snooping around the neighborhood yesterday and showing the sketch.''

Police warned Sylmar residents on Tuesday to be on alert for a sexual assault suspect sporting distinct “earlobe gauges,” who allegedly grabbed two near an apartment complex in the 12000 Dronfield Avenue on Sunday morning.

Neither woman was physically harmed, said LAPD Lt. Paul Vernon.

“But these were two bold, public encounters within the same complex and within one hour's time,” Vernon said.

Investigators dubbed him the “Ear Gauge Stalker" because he was described as having large gauges in both earlobes.

Police said in both cases the suspect made small talk with the victim before grabbing the women.

In the second case the suspect allegedly grabbed the woman and dragged her 60 feet to a dark, secluded area, starting to remove her clothing before a passerby heard the woman’s screams and intervened.

Detectives did not learn of the earlier assault until Monday, Vernon said.

The victims are both Hispanic women in their 30s who live in the same apartment complex, but not in the same unit, police said.

Anyone knowing more about the case was urged to call (818) 838-9975 or (800) 222-TIPS.
