Early Morning Gang Sweep in LA County

Hundreds arrested as officers scan harbor area neighborhoods.

Hundreds of police officers, dozens of undercover agents and a handful of agencies brings in more than 100 arrests of local suspected gang members.

The U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Immigration, Customs and Enforcement Agency, the U.S. Secret Service, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Internal Revenue Service and the Los Angeles Police Department joined forces early Thursday morning to round up some of LA's most dangerous gang members.

It's all part of a 2 1/2 year investigation intro criminal activity of local gangs with arrests of men and women charged now with illegal firearms and narcotics.

Authorities said many of the people arrested are members and associates of the Rancho San Pedro  gang.

The RSP gang's origins date back to the 1970s.  Its membership includes  600 documented members and more than 400 associates.
