A helicopter crew rescued a missing woman Friday in a hiking area where the 19-year-old college student disappeared Thursday morning.

The woman, last seen in Arcadia, was reported missing at 8 a.m. Thursday. Family members said she was last seen when her mother dropped her off at a bus stop on her way to Pasadena City College.

At about 6 p.m. a friend told police that the woman called to report she was lost in the Eaton Canyon area (map). Friends told police she frequently hiked on Eaton Canyon's rugged trails.

Authorities launched a search of the hiking area northeast of Pasadena late Thursday, but found no signs of the missing woman during one of the coldest nights of the year in Southern California. The search resumed Friday morning and a helicopter crew located the woman huddled near rocks by a canyon wall.

A rescuer was lowered from a helicopter to airlifted the woman out of the canyon.

Details regarding her condition were not immediately available, but aerial video showed her walking from the helicopter and into a hospital accompanied by rescue personnel.

In March, a 17-year-old hiker died after a fall at Eaton Canyon during a spring break hike. Just days later, a helicopter rescue crew airlifted two women who fell in the same area.

The Los Angeles County sheriff's and fire departments and Arcadia police were involved in the search and rescue.
