Body Found After Fire, Standoff in El Monte

One person was killed and at least three people were injured Wednesday after a fire at an El Monte home that led to a police standoff and shooting.

A woman in her 70s was found after the fire and standoff in the 3900 block of Glen Way. She died at a hospital, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The fire was reported at about 7:30 a.m. and knocked down about 20 minutes later

Officers arrived to find a man holding a woman hostage at knife point in front of the house. The victim appeared to have suffered burns over a large part of her body, according to the sheriff's department.

The attacker also suffered burns.

When the man refused to release the knife, officers opened fire, according to the sheriff's department. He remained hospitalized late Wednesday morning.

A third burn victim, a man in his late 40s, was found in the street.

A knife was recovered at the scene.
