Tens of thousands of dollars worth of playground equipment at a San Bernardino County school was destroyed in a fire that authorities said was deliberately set.
The fire was reported Sunday at about midday outside Arroyo Verde Elemetary School in Highland, just east of San Bernardino. The fire burned on the south side of the school in a playbound area and was quickly extinguished.
It destroyed what deputies described as a large piece of playground equipment and the bark surface surrounding the equipment. Initial damage estimates totaled between $50,000 and $100,000.
