The former mayor of Hawthorne pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of felony grand theft for stealing a commercial food mixer from the local school district in 2010.
Larry Guidi, 54, stole the mixer to help him make dough for his home pizza oven, said prosecutors.
Guidi (pictured, right) worked as a warehouse operations manager for the Hawthorne School District when he was
captured on video surveillance last year, loading the mixer into a pickup truck shortly before it drove away.
In exchange for his plea, one count of commercial burglary was dismissed.
He was sentenced to one year's probation and 100 hours of community service.
Guidi first served as mayor of Hawthorne in 1993. He held the position for 18 years.
He faced a maximum of three years in jail if the case went to trial.
As a result of the incident, Guidi was let go of his position with the school district and did not run for re-election as mayor.
School district officials said the mixer was worth about $1,350.
