ExxonMobil Refinery Explosion Causes Gas Price Hike: Analysts

The ExxonMobil Refinery explosion in Torrance has been blamed as the cause of the latest spike in gasoline prices in Southern California.

According to analysts, California has been dealing with a tight supply the blast happened in February.

The facility is still not producing gasoline and probably will not be fully up to speed until June at the earliest.

In LA County the average cost for a gallon of self-serve regular is $3.76-cents, up 12 cents from Thursday. In Orange County it is around one cent less, and in the Inland Empire it costs $3.65.

"Three oil companies are buying spot market gasoline in Southern California because of refinery shortfalls," Automobile Club of Southern California communications manager Jeffrey Spring said.

He also said the shortage could become worse as the Chevron refinery in El Segundo is going offline Friday for maintenance.
