Police issued a warning Friday: Beware of a fake cop.

A man posing as one of LA's finest has robbed at least four people in the last two months:

  • Sept. 26 -- Rampart police station area
  • Oct. 16 -- Rampart police station area
  • Oct. 23 -- Olympic area
  • Oct. 24 -- Pacific area

The man dresses as a plain-clothed officer with a badge clipped to a gun belt. He identifies himself as a cop and then searches the victims, removing loose cash and wallets, police say.

The man was described as Hispanic, 35 to 45 years old, about 6 feet tall 230 pounds. He has been seen wearing a dark polo-style shirt and jeans, and driving a gray 2005 Pontiac Grand AM GT, a gold or tan 1998 Mercury and a gray 2007 Buick.

He's armed and dangerous, say police. Anyone with info can contact detectives at 213-485-2511 or 1-877-LAPD-24-7.
