Family Displaced on Thanksgiving After Suspected Arson Destroys South LA Home

A family of of four was displaced on Thanksgiving morning after suspected arson destroyed their home in a fire in South Los Angeles, police said.

The fire was reported just after 4 a.m. in the 1100 block of 73rd Street in the community of Vermont Knolls, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It took firefighters roughly 20 minutes to put out the flames as the home's roof collapsed.

The occupants, a mother, father and their two young daughters, were not home at the time of the fire.

Los Angeles City firefighters at Fire station 73 will be preparing a Thanksgiving meal for the displaced family on Thursday. The young girls will be receiving gifts from the Spark of Love Toy Drive, LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation.
