A family Thanksgiving dinner was interrupted Thursday night when a fire broke out at a Long Beach home, but everyone made it out safely and the flames were quickly snuffed out by firefighters.
The blaze was reported in the 6200 block of Cordoba Court around 6 p.m. after neighbors saw heavy smoke coming from the roof and chimney, said Brian Fisk, a public information officer with the Long Beach Fire Department.
The neighbors knocked on the family's door to alert them and everyone evacuated the residence without injury, Fisk said.
It took firefighters roughly 30 minutes to put out the flames, which were concentrated in the chimney, roof and other parts of the house, Fisk said.
"It was a tricky fire, it traveled in the walls and went up to the attic," he said.
As for the family, they won't be able to finish Thanksgiving dinner at home.
"The family was displaced and they'll be staying with other relatives tonight," Fisk said.
