A fatal hit-and-run closed a highway linking Orange and Riverside counties Friday morning as authorities investigated the crash.
A man in his 20s died when he was hit by a Subaru while walking on the highway; his blue Scion had flipped over after he lost control on the 74 Highway at about 4:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities are searching for the light-colored Subaru, possibly a Legacy, that they believe hit the man, a CHP representative said.
The California Highway Patrol closed the Ortega Highway eastbound at Gateway and westbound at the Orange County/Riverside County line until further notice. A SIG Alert was issued at about 5:45 a.m.
