A fatal crash involving a pedestrian resulted in a shooting in the Westmont area of unincorporated Los Angeles County, said authorities.

The accident happened on Western Avenue near 108th Street at 9:15 p.m. Saturday.

“The female pedestrian died at the scene,” said Lt. Milton Murphy of the South Los Angeles Station.  “The female driver drove from the scene in apparent fear of her life after a man appeared and started firing rounds at that driver,” said Lt. Murphy.

The accident is not being considered a hit-and-run at this time because she did notify authorities.

“The person that was the driver of that vehicle went home and called 9-1-1,” said Sgt. Gene McGary, California Highway Patrol. “So we responded to the residence, and at this time officers are over there taking their statements and collecting more information regarding the accident,” said Sgt. McGary.

“The man who fired the shots remains at large,” said Lt. Murphy.

“The traffic accident is being investigated by the CHP, while the shooting is being looked into by the sheriff’s department,” said Sgt. McGary.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact either the sheriff’s department or the CHP.
