Fatal Freeway Shooting in Carson

Shot in the neck, the driver of a Prius had just pulled into the eastbound 91 Freeway transition lane in Carson when the vehicle crashed into a concrete wall. That’s when the victim, identified as Ivan Spencer, 55, lost consciousness and his connection with 911.

Spenser was on his way home from work around 3 a.m. when someone fired multiple shots on the passenger side of his champagne-colored Prius, according to LAPD homicide investigators. Spencer was able to call 911 himself before losing control of the vehicle.  He told 911 operators he had been shot.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and took the victim away, still breathing, but he died at the hospital.

Spencer worked at Starz Gentleman's in Gardena for the past 15 years, according to Police. He was also the founder of "Psycho Clown Posse," a paintball enthusiast club, going by the name "Rockzilla." He lived in an exclusive gated community in Rolling Hills.

LAPD Southeast Division is investigating.  Homicide detectives have taken over but do not yet have any suspects or motive. They say they will look at local casinos and clubs to see if there is a connection.

The 110 Freeway remained open. The Prius was cleared from the location at about 6 a.m.  All lanes reopened at 6:30 a.m.
