Man Mourns Loss of Brother Killed by Hit-and-Run Motorist

Police are looking for the male driver who fled the scene. The vehicle has been described as a large, black SUV, comparable in size to an Escalade.

Street racing was suspected in a crash that killed a 17-year-old pedestrian, police said.

Milton Marquez was killed Wednesday after being struck by a driver possibly in a black Cadillac Escalade, police said. The incident happened in the 7000 block of North Whitsett Avenue in North Hollywood, police said.

"It hurts," said Marquez's brother, Danny, through tears. "I was with him. I never thought this was going to happen."

Danny Marquez said they had left a pharmacy and were crossing the street outside the crosswalk when the SUV hit his brother.

"They didn't stop at all," he said. "They dragged my brother. A lot of pain. I miss him a lot."

Police had no description of the driver but said the SUV would have severe front-end damage.

Witnesses told police the suspect vehicle, which appeared to have been racing another vehicle, continued north before turning right onto Sherman Way, then right onto the southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway.
