Man Holding Bayonet-Style Weapon Fatally Shot by Hollywood Police

A man was fatally shot by police early Friday morning after he was seen walking the streets in East Hollywood with what appeared to be a bayonet.

The shooting occurred just after 1 a.m. on the 1400 block of Hobart Boulevard near Sunset Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department Hollywood Station.

Two officers from the Hollywood station were on routine patrol when they saw a man who was holding a long, "bayonet-style" weapon, said Lt. Chris Ramirez.

When he came in contact with the officers, a shooting occurred, he said.

What led police to fire was not immediately known. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers recovered a bayonet-style rifle at the scene, according to Ramirez.

Hobart Boulevard from Sunset Boulevard to Fountain Avenue was closed around 5 a.m.
