Female Passenger Killed When SUV Skids Into Tree From Freeway Offramp in Glendale

Both the passenger and the driver had to be cut from the wreckage

A 49-year-old woman was killed this morning when the SUV in which she was riding slammed into a tree on a 134 Freeway offramp in Glendale, authorities said.

The woman was later identified as Wendelin Jung, a resident of Eagle Rock, said Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Investigator Joyce Kato.

The 45-year-old man who was driving the Toyota SUV sustained moderate injuries in the 2 a.m. crash, which occurred on the Pacific Avenue offramp leaving the westbound freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to County-USC Medical Center, Posada said.

Glendale firefighters had to cut both victims from the wreckage.

The man was conscious and breathing while being loaded into an ambulance, a news photographer on scene said.

The crash and ensuring investigation shut down the offramp until 5 a.m., according to CHP.
