Driver Crashes Ferrari 488 Convertible Into Advertising Van, Utility Box

The driver left the scene, leaving a mangled Italian automotive masterpiece in pieces

A driver didn't stick around after crashing a Ferrari into a parked advertising van and transformer box Thursday afternoon in Westwood.

Witnesses saw the silver Ferrari 488 convertible barreling east on Wilshire Boulevard when the driver slammed into a van advertising Spanish language lessons. The collision left a large gash along the side of the van near the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Comstock Avenue.

The mid-engine sports car, priced in the neighborhood of $275,000, lost a wheel before bouncing off a curb and into the metal utility box, witnesses said. The driver already left by the time police arrived to begin their investigation into the hit-and-run crash involving city property.

The LAPD confirmed the car, which did not have license plates, was not stolen. Investigators identified the owner and will be conducting a follow-up investigation, according to the department.

No injuries were reported.

The 488 is Ferrari's recently unleashed turbocharged model, coming on the heels of the acclaimed 458.
