DA Expected to File DUI Charges in Bus Crash

Car allegedly crashed into bus, which ran into another truck

The driver of a car that plowed into an Orange County Transit Authority bus, injuring 15, is expected to be charged with drunk driving Wednesday, officials said.

Fifteen people were injured Tuesday night when a Toyota Corolla driven by Edgar Estrada, 23, allegedly ran a red light before striking a bus that in turn crashed into another truck in Santa Ana.

Police said the car collided with the bus at 17th and Fairview streets around 10:15 p.m. Estrada was trapped inside his car before being freed by firefighters.

He was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center.

The bus driver was also among those injured. Nine were transported to local hospitals.

Three people were transported to the hospital in critical condition; six had moderate injuries and six had minor injuries and did not require additional medical help.

Santa Ana police are investigating the collision, and are asking the District Attorney's office to file charges against Estrada, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
