Hydrant Mishap Unleashes Tower of Water in Griffith Park

The geyser sprayed water above Zoo Drive on the east side of the 4,200-acre park

Damage to a hydrant caused a geyser of water that could be seen from the 5 Freeway Wednesday morning in Griffith Park.

Construction crews were working in the area near Zoo Drive, which remains closed, at the time of the mishap. Aerial video showed a sheared hydrant on its side near the tower of water.

Crews appeared to have reduced water flow at about 8 a.m. Details regarding when the road will reopen were not immediately available.
