Firefighter Suffers Burned Hand in Winnetka Strip Mall Fire

A fire heavily damaged a strip mall in Winnetka Monday and injured a firefighter, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 2:59 a.m. at 20851 Sherman Way at De Soto Avenue, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It took 106 firefighters 49 minutes to put out the flames inside the 4,452-square-foot structure, which has four tenants, Humphrey said. They were Ladin's Liquor and Delicatessen, Cash 4 Gold CP, Winnetka check Cashing and Raspados Y Churros Frutal.

One firefighter suffered a burned hand and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Humphrey said. He was in fair condition. There were no other injuries.

The 61-year-old building was not equipped with fire sprinklers, according to fire officials.

Several traffic lanes around the intersection were closed until firefighters finish their work, Humphrey said.
